Gira was founded in 1905 and today with its more than 1,000 employees and representatives in 38 countries, it is among Germany's leading mid-sized electrical companies. It manufactures switches and socket outlets, in addition to a wide range of electrical installation systems, including for the fields of communication technology, door intercoms and automation of heating, light and blinds.
Constant innovation over 100 years since Gira was founded has led to its successful company history, with the development from switch manufacturer to system supplier. Innovation points the way to the future and Gira is certainly keeping its sights firmly fixed on the future.
OVER 100 YEARS OF CORPORATE HISTORY
Gira was founded in 1905 in Wuppertal and initially started with the utilisation of a toggle switch patent. In 1910, Gira moved to Radevormwald. During the 1930's, the company established itself as a switch supplier of excellent-quality products with the well-known lever-bolt rotary switch and has been successfully expanding its product range with new and modern products and solutions ever since. Today, Gira employs approximately 1,000 people.
COOPERATION WITH ARCHITECTS
Gira works closely with architects and regards them as important contacts for cooperation when designing new products. In the early 80's, an idea arose to match the clear colours of plastic door handles from Hewi with switches and socket outlet. The designer Professor Klose then designed the S-Color switch, which was introduced to the market in numerous colours in 1985.

With the Gira Design Configurator
With the Gira Design Configurator, diverse frame variants from the Gira switch ranges can be combined with various functions from the Gira product range according to customer wishes. Ten switch ranges, more than 50 frame variants and numerous inserts in different colours and materials are available. In addition to light switches and socket outlets, intelligent functions such as the Gira push button sensor 3 and the Gira surface-mounted home station video can be used.
The Gira Design Configurator can be called up online and is available as a free app for the iPhone and iPad. An optimised web display is available for smartphones and tablets with other operating systems.
